7. The Hermits

One hermit makes pigeons praise Allah. A pious shepherd gets ill, is seduced by an angel but she fails. Another pious man is sent to the shepherd but scares off birds and beasts. They both live piously in the cave of the shepherd.

On certain mountain lives a hermit who shares his bread with two pigeons till he dies. He always said “Praised be Allah!” and the pigeons copied that.

On another mountain is a shepherd who makes his living by the milk and wool of his sheep. He falls ill and goes to a cavern. Here Allah sends an angel who tries to seduce him, but he rejects her and honours the Lord.

A pious man is sent to the shepherd by Allah, but when he wants to drink from a pool he scares away the birds and the beast and he is ashamed by this.

When he reaches the shepherd he stays with him living from sheep flesh and wool and they both praise Allah.
